The Stone

Just yesterday, his hug was warm
lopsided grin so wide
his tawny hair, a tangled mess
my tears have not yet dried

today I bought a stone for him
carved from a mother's tears
her heart broken into pieces
one for each of his years

headstone
tombstone
gravestone
deathstone
he lies beneath the earth
alone

his pall encased in rites of dirt
sealed soft with weedy grace
where saffron sculped buttercups
are wound with Queen Ann's Lace

he slumbers neath the loamy soil
composing dreams of never
he must be late for school, I think
but now, he sleeps forever

I remember this from when you first posted it Lyra. So tragic that there is a reason to post it again. You, more than most of us, have an idea what Larry is going through. Hugs to you and Larry.

My heart breaks at the reasons for both the writing this reposting... and for every parent who's experienced such devastating loss.

....

I would rather have one breath of his hair,
one kiss of his mouth,
one touch of his hand
than an eternity without it.

Thanks so much, Karilea...yes, it does stretch and thats it;s beauty

Larry...you dear man...please take care of yourself and Nancy Lee...I am so very sorry

Noah...thanks so much for your reply...I don't think the tears for something like this, ever really stop...they just stop showing.

Tracey...thanks so much for your reply...I feel the same way about it.  Its a very raw poem!

Sue...I'm glad that you got a chance to see it bud its too bad that it had to be because of Larry's loss...thanks for your reply.

Kacy...thanks so much for your reply and for your caring.

Mr.Squirrel...thank you so much for your reply and for the acorns and the candybells...I must be a stupid chipmunk...am I supposed to know what candybells are?

Thank you so much, Suthern...this is the most difficult thing a parent could ever face.

Thanks so much Lauren...I truly understand the speechlessness

Martin...thanks so much for your reply and for yor sympathy on behalf of Larry and myself as well as any other parent who has had to endure this nightmare.
