May 18, 2001...the midnitesun joined the Passions in Poetry forum.

Who would have guessed
my whole life would change?
(No, not my Life Insurance Policy!)
Who would have guessed that
Passions could be so powerful?
For on that fateful day in May,
I ventured within these hallowed cyber halls,
and soon lost myself within
these blessed blue poetic walls.
Poetry has always been a force
to reckon with, a prima facie
of my emotional data base.
After all, I began writing
while in Kindergarten.
Nonsense rhymes.
Twaddle, (as Jaime might say).
Prattle and drool
clever only to a grade school fool.
Who would have guessed
poetry would change my whole life?
How could I have known
that within these pages there would be
an audience of compassionate co-conspirators
who would embrace,
rather than ridicule me?
Actually, I never shared my poetry,
except with a one-hand picked few.
So most people I grew up and worked with,
never even knew
I wrote anything beyond required school reports,
advertising copy and newspaper dribble.
The poetry stayed safely tucked away,
out of sight, maybe out of fright.
For I was always suspicious
of other people’s  reactions.
But now I share my poetry,
(such as it is)
and have found many fantastic friends,
and Jaime. (Or did he find me?)
Who would have guessed
LIFE would change
just because of  POETRY?
Not me.
Now look what Passions In Poetry
has done for me!

CONGRATULATIONS kACY

I loved the positivity of your poem...and I share so many of those feelings.

I began to write at age 6 on the inside cover of one of my dad's poetry books.
He used to read me the poetry and I thought that if they could write in that book...so could I.  My mother recently gave me the book.
Isn't it wonderful how many new friends we have all made at this wonderful website.

Friends with whom we can share our fears and hopes and dreams...and most importantly...our poetry!

Congratulations Kacy....I know that you will be here for another year, at least...and I hope to stick around as long as you do.

~ congratulatory hugs

Noah, I think I know how much this place means to you. In so many ways it's a shelter from the storms of life.

Lyra, hugs to you, and yes, I intend to keep on posting 'till Ron sends me away. Hehe, hopefully that's not too likely, as long as I stay within the family's guidelines. BTW, it is fantastic that you now have that heirloom poetry book!

Marsha, you are utterly wonderfully sweet! Hope you never do find that trash can full of junk I've written.

Well Kacy, this site has definitely done something good for you (and I am grinning and winking big time), but you also have done a lot for the site by adding some "spice" once in awhile.  You are right about one thing for sure, in this haven of poetry many friendships have formed and a lot of love is shared and we do have Ron to thank for that.
Congratulations on your anniversary.

Sharon, hugs and thanks for always being one of the truest of friends I've made at this site. PS, I'm bringing the midnight sun with me in June, as I fly towards BC. Get ready!

This is wonderful, Midnitesun!  I really like how you phrased "Out of sight, maybe out of fright".  True, true!  I think for many it is scary to bare emotion this way, whether they write about "love", "jealousy" or a "Kleenex Box".  Here we have all emotions, including humor, too (Thanks, Toe!).  These 'blue pages' are a haven for many for many reasons.  I'm glad you stumbled in here as so many before you and are able to share.  I hope to be writing an anniversary poem as sweet as this one a year from now.  And for some reason, I'm thinking I should say "congrats" on the Jamie thing, although I've not been along for the ride long enough to really get that one!

Peace to you, and happy anniversary!

Thanks to each of you for your wonderful replies. As happy as I was when posting this, I am equally saddened today by the news of Larry C losing his daughter. My bond with the passionate poets here is as strong as any family bonding.

Eric, thank you so much for all your kind words. But thanks especially for writing the wonderful things you do, and sharing them here.

Sandra, I consider myself one of the luckiest people I know, because I stumbled into this home of love at a time when my own 'real' home scene nearly fell apart. thanks, dear friend.
