The Vase of Beauty

Fragrant lilies opening their hearts to his mother
daisies...I love the wild of them
marigolds remind me of the baby
flitting on sturdy little legs, eating dandelions
ya-yees, he called them

his shiny hair glinting the sun
my son
made from love and lust

reachy hands all full of touch and wonder
vast dark trusting eyes of mischief's promise
grown up now
this man
his impish youth, I could not keep forever
it fast outgrew my nurturing motherhands

but the love he sends
seeps from this vase of beauty
and my boundless love for him
breaks years of always

Ah I loved this and can't you remember that first dandelion he picked and handed you.  I remember my son in this Lyra, and this memory you have given me this day is a treasure, both in my mind and your poetry.

Thanks so much, Sharon....Yes, I remember he brought me a whole bouquet of ya-yees...and I put them in a little tiny glass...but he wanted me to EAT them.
this was a little boy with a voracious appetite...he thought everything was food...
I think he still does, but he controls himself now.

I was just so moved that he picked out my very favorite flowers and he put the marigolds in there because it was the closest he could get to dandelions...that I cried when I got it.

Yes!  How I understand this poem!  You've done more than pen a treasure, you've created a Keeper!  THIS poem shall be framed and alongside the painting...Yes!

Yes Lyra, I remember the first time April gave me a flower from the yard.  Just the other day she brought my favorites home to me from the lilac bush.  This is indeed a keeper as Karilea said, to be framed, and treasured.  Mother hugs to you Lrya.

Lyra,
You have captured a whisp in the wind and that is hard to do. A classic an epopee.

I would rather have one breath of his hair,
one kiss of his mouth,
one touch of his hand
than an eternity without it.

Lyra, if all of us could show the love for
our children as you do your own...what a
gentle and loving earth this would be...

Beautiful words and feelings conveyed
with the passion of a kind and loving
mother...

What a beautiful poem and loving tribute to a son who obviously has a heart of love for you. Oh, how we Mom's remember those bouquets of dandelions and how special and precious they were.
Hope you are feeling well - hugs, Marti

Thanks so much, Noah...He was looking for wildflowers with dandelions in the bouquet, but he couldn't find any because they are considered weeds...and the closest he could come was yellow marigolds....
But I was just SO touched that he had picked out EXACTLY the flowers I love.

Thanks so much, Karilea...for your enthusiastic reply.

I emailed Victor this poem this morning and wanted him to read it before I sent it out to the rest of my email list.  No one answered his phone, so I tried his cell phone and someone who sounded EXACTLY like victor...but with a foreign accent answered...and I was sure that it was victor playing a prank because he always does great impersonations...but he called me back later and it turned out that I had REALLY dialed the wrong number.  I sure hope that other  guy didn't have caller ID because I kept accusing him of being Victor and  telling him it was his mom..."please stop fooling around" I kept yelling at him!

Thanks so much, Donna...
When they're little, they bring you sweet bouquets they can pick...and when they grow up and have money...they buy you expensive bouquets and the flower man delivers them...

But this was so sweetly thought out, with all of my favorite flowers, that it made me cry...especially the yellow marigolds because he couldn't find the dandelions anywhere!

Thanks so much Sy,  thanks to you, I now have a new word in my vocabulary.  I didn't know what an epopee was, so I looked it up in the dictionary....and I am very flattered.

Thank you so much Barry...that is such a sweet reply...I will treasure it...I think every mother loves her children that way, but not every mother happens to be a poet.

Thanks so much, Marti...Yes the bouquets  of dandelions...the ya-yees (he called all his food ya ya), but he thought I was supposed to eat them and not put them in a little vase!
I guess he knows better now

BTW, I am feeling better at the moment, having finished radiation treatments...which were horrible.  But on June 5, I see my oncologist and get the results of the CT scan I will have on June 3...I am really scared....but in my heart I think the tumor is gone and my symptoms are gone!

thanks for asking
