T’was not a matter of déjà vu
More of a circle coming back in view
From your start you see the end
Or is it a matter of begin again

Tall gray walls, somber in view
Apartments in complex forming a U
For the moment I stood, where I did before
Then took a step forward beyond past’s door

Footsteps hollow on old cracked walk
Close the eyes and hear ghosts talk
Children playing in that U shaped square
Upon the grasses we wore down so bare

Billy and Judy, Mary Jane too
Half dozen others come into view
Sledding in winter, skates in spring
Oh how I hear, the laughter in ring

Where are they now, these pals of mine
Back in the days of gentle design
Fifty eight years, back in the past
I have to wonder how they did last

You can never go back, the learned do say
But then again, I must be fey
For back I go, for memory is strong
With the breeze softly blowing its haunting song

My grandmother’s voice rang in my ear
I saw my young mother I loved so dear
With a sigh, the mists blew away
Leaving me once more in the light of day

With a blink of eye, all was gone
Leaving only the dreams of time foregone
I smiled a smile, for I went away
Hearing the voices of children of that time and day

Logan

You are open to this kind of travel...into the place where you took such a loving picture so many years ago.  How wonderful to be there again, even for a short time.  Hugs!

There are times
we only find home
in our hearts
and memories

only the brave
return to the real...

Well done...very well done, and welcome home.

Dear Logan...
This touches me...deeply.
I know...exactly what you mean
and how you got to 'there' from 'here'...
Please kind sir, if I bring sticks
will you sit by the fire with us
and talk a little longer
into the night?

Logan,  I do relate well to this...I once
returned to the bare piece of ground...
shaded by the same old oak trees where my
childhood years were lived.....Though the
house was long gone,  weeds replacing grass,
I could still see it all...just as I can
now...

Memories are wonderful thoughts within our
minds....  A pleasurable respite at times..
though the NOW is still very much a part
of my life...

Beautiful poem,  I do so much like this one..

This is really nice!  I'm still too young to say that this truly brings back memories, but it does.  It was very effective and expressive.  I like the quality here, and the time that you must have put into it.  And if this one didn't take a long time, I admire you and your poem even more, because this hit me very well.  Bravo!

Logan hi there this is excellent writing I can relate to this so well. I even now refer to going back home when I talk about returning to the town in which I was born and I haven’t lived there for 19 years. This is really superb writing
