In old field, hid from sight
Under wisteria there was a delight
Frame of board, porch dropped down
Empty windows with only breeze sound

But then a whisper came to me
Don’t judge me now, listen and see
As by magic, the vine was gone
I heard the house sing its song

I remember when he brought her to me
Bright and shining for her to see
A home to raise children strong
With love and care each day long

The years went by, I was filled with love
Husband and children and mourning dove
The land grew crop, the children grew tall
I heard the sounds as she gave her all

Worn from work, the couple gave
Until the day, they could no longer save
Children had left, the towns they did draw
Hearing the magic of the siren’s call

Weathered came I, too much to upkeep
As the old couple lay down in final sleep
The vines did grow, and covered me over
The land had been sold, fields went to clover

But listen close, and you can hear
The sounds of living that held me dear
Even if my frame is gone
My soul does live in whipperwill song

Please look down beyond yard weed
To see the flowers gone to seed
Take a bulb and plant it well
And in your heart I will ever dwell

I did what the old house told me to do
And found the bulbs it told me to
Now in my yard as flower waves
I hear the old house telling of its days

Logan...how gentle...and how well it suits us all, to listen to the strains of an old house sing...

I love this, Logan... it's one of your very finest. *S* I'd love it even if my Dad and I hadn't dug a daffodil bulb from the front yard of his first home. *S* Perhaps the few weathered boards that remained were pleased. *S*

Logan

An old home holds many things...voices, laughter...the music of wood, the footfalls of life....and you are a listener..of course it spoke to you.  Loved this!

Logan, this one I shall put into my library and treasure, for I live in a very very old house, and have often wondered what it was thinking...and try my best to care for it...in fact I'm on my way out the door now to tend to it's garden.  Thank you for this keeper gentle man.

Very nicely done Logan. It says a lot to all who can relate to the same ties!

(big hugggsssssss) Oh logan, this poem too brought back many memories too as I read this, sweet friend, I thought of my grandparent's old house and how just looking at the interior garage door always makes me think of the times we fashioned birdhouses in there! (sigh) This is excellent, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Logan, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Sometimes inside or out of stately old homes, or even run-down ones, I like to imagine they speak to me, and I am so glad to hear I am not the only strange "duck" that does this   I loved how this one spoke to you my friend (thought you were away?) - nice to see your inspired even when you are working.

Logan,  this is such a beauty....Brings
back many thoughts of places long ago
where I grew up...Each home having it's own
character to add to the life within...

You have penned a very enjoyable poem..
Thank You...

Hello Logan

What a vast array of wonderful images were portrayed through your words.  I was held captive through each and every verse.  It's so nice to see you here again and to read your wonderful words of wisdom.

Take care.....Sue
