I haven't posted a poem here in a long time.I wrote this one for the guys that I grew up with. For My Friends We may not cross each other’s paths as much as in years gone by. For we’ve all got our own families now, we all have different lives. But time or distance will never break the bond that we all share. The friends that you grew up with are the friends that you hold dear. There was a time, some years ago, when I’d see you every day. Whether on the corner or down the park, we’d be there, come what may. The lumberyard, the railroad tracks, are memories of our past. It seems like only yesterday but time has moved on fast. Bonsey, Beam-On, Danny Boy, Fanny, Patrick, Joe, Catman, Posty, Franny, Sal. Where did they all go? Shoesy, Brady, Turk and Red, We had ourselves a ball. We were there for one another. All for one and one for all. But time does not stand still. The weeks, they come and go. Before you know it, a year’s gone by and you haven’t said hello. Some people try to replace their friends. Forsaking old friends for the new. But no one could ever to take your place, they would never, ever do. The lifelong friendship we all share, not many can comprehend. I will treasure it forever. Until the very end. |
