Happy Fiftieth Birthday Tony

Its his birthday today, he,s a half century old
a cardboard tiger, black stripes on his gold
for fifty years, our breakfasts he's graced
this loveable cat just can't be replaced

born here in Michigan, in Battle Creek
time passes so fast, now he's an antique
its hard to believe, he's been with us so long
wasn't it yesterday, he was just born?

sugar coated and sweet, kids think he's great
and many adults think he's first rate
a familiar part of our lives, he's become
his great big smile, like an upturned thumb

so Tony The Tiger, we salute you today
and wish you a happy fiftieth birthday

Thanks for your reply, Lori...
I am from Kalamazoo, which is about 30 miles west of Battle Creek...but the funny part is that because of Kelloggs Cereals being in Battle Creek, everyone thinks its this great big city and its only a tiny little town.  Kalamazoo is quite a bit bigger than Battle Creek, and yet we have trouble getting stores to locate here because they think we are too small.  There is a Bed, Bath and Beyond in Battle Creek, but we can't seem to get them to come here.  I think Tony made them famous so they seem like a big city.

He's "almost" as old as me!  I do remember downtown Battle Creek - the smell of grapenuts cooking!  I'll bet people don't know that the cereal, grapenuts, is cooked in a loaf pan, and then literally smashed to make the cereal!

And Tony greets all his guests
treating them to roars of "That's G r r r r e e a a a t t t!"
So for this special birthday,
no one should want to be late!

Who would have thunk it!

Lyra,  you have certainly given our striped
legend a supreme birthday gift....

I do believe he might make it to the century
mark,  but I'm not sure about the rest of
us who are over the half century mark! Ha!!

Thanks for your reply, Karilea...you must be a real kid because he's NOT AS OLD AS I AM.
I even remember when he was first born...
and he has always been my favorite cereal.
The only tiger I would ever dare to bite!

Thanks Noah...isn't Tony wonderful...
a friendly tiger.  Whoever thought him up was an absolute advertising genius!
Of course it doesn't hurt that his frosted flakes taste so good!

Thanks Barry...I do believe that you are probably right.  I think he will probably survive us, as well as our children and their grandchildren.
