Choose Well

At times my love, you seem a world away,
So distant, so aloof, so self contained,
As if in keeping wanting arms at bay
A sterile sphere of emptiness is gained.
Myself, it seems the paralyzing dread
Of loveless confrontations fueled by spite,
In daylight leaves me less alive than dead
And haunts me through each vacant hour of night.
Plagued as such no love would long survive,
Nor will our own survive without relief.
Relief assured when last our hearts may strive
To overcome the stings of petty grief.

The choice is ours, to love or let love waste,
Then let us love and choose to love in haste.

sigh, you have a grasp of meter, and it plays out well in this sonnet...

I so envy this ability.

um, mind sharing the form of sonnet this might be? and etc.?

(I study, sometimes yanno!)

Thanks Serenity for your kind words. This is an English sonnet, also known as a Shakespearean sonnet, written in iambic pentameter, that is ten syllables per line with a rhyme scheme of abab, cdcd, efef,gg. It just takes a little practice to think in terms of ten syllables at a time but once you've mastered that these  are not too difficult to write. Good luck.

I believe some people only let you get so close, no matter how strong and brave they appear to be, somewhere beneath it all they fear themselves to some extent.  Love is a many splendored thing, and we all define it differently.

Very nice writing Sir~

Though I have loved and cherished each and every one of your beautiful sonnets, this is most definitely, without a doubt, the one that has touched me most deeply.  Your heart is a rare one, indeed.....
