The Bottom Line One day within a dreamer’s spell I came upon a wishing well There was a little sign embossed “A single wish, a penny tossed” My dream was ready waiting there But pockets searched were pockets bare Not one small copper coin in sight To ease the want of my delight So near the brink, so close at hand A wish would fall at my command And as I glanced upon the ground I saw a penny, small and round It seems someone had dropped it there And left the well without a care I reached and held the penny tight And wished and wished with all my might Just think what this small coin will do My greatest wish will soon come true But then I read again the sign And saw the tiny bottom line It said , “Your dream will soon come true But you must also pay your due For every selfish wish you make An irreversible mistake” “A million dollars you could own For one small copper penny thrown But for each greedy wish will be A hungry child across the sea” The penny I so tightly clasped Fell suddenly from out my grasp I let it drop beside the well And to my knees I humbly fell It came to me the purpose now This wishing well to which I bow I tossed the penny to the depths Of spirit’s well of gratefulness And wished that one small child would be Held safe from harm and hungry free From out the well there came a sound A child’s laughter echoed round A dreamer I have always been But I still carry deep within A hope and love for fellow man And squelch my greedas best I can Elizabeth Santos |

"A dreamer I have always been But I still carry deep within A hope and love for fellow man And squelch my greedas best I can" BRAVO!!! I love the thoughtfulness you put into this wonderful poem, sweet friend, I would never ever wish for something of vanity or greed either, for then that can only lead to frustration or grief in the future, if I had a wish, I would always wish to feel like a child again and have my sweet dream girl Joanna close to me and promise to be faithful and love her forever! (kiss on cheek) This is wonderful, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |
