We would sit around the campfire- Then we’d talk about our home… About the youthful fun we’d had… ‘fore we began to roam. We’d talk about the spreads we’d worked- The men whom we’d called “Boss”. The wrecks, near misses, things like that, Our favorite, saddle hoss. We’d sing a song, or crack a joke- Before we’d drift apart- We had just one unspoken rule- “Don’t ever bare your heart!” Don’t open up those heartaches- Don’t talk about the dreams. The hardest laughing one of us- Is never like he seems… We all have hidden things inside- And things from which we run… It may be things we didn’t do- Or things we’ve said or done. So pour some coffee, sit a spell- But friend, before you start- We have just one unspoken rule- “Don’t ever bare your heart!” |

Well Gunslinger, You're just one of my favorite poets. Oops...see rule #1. Sorry. I forgot, I'll be going now! Cool write...a keeper. It's never too late to have a good childhood! Woohoo! |

Oh Gunslinger. I absolutely adore your work, but I have a question...does this rule apply to the women in your life? I would love to read that in a poem. Kat |

I'm thankful that you didn't take this advice, "Don't Ever Bare Your Heart". I enjoy your poems that show your heart. |

I can almost hear the country guitar in this one. I'm glad you know how to share, or bare, your heart. |
