I clicked on the windows update on my start menu. It said I had several updates to install (about 41). Do I need to install all of the updates? If not, how does someone know which ones should be installed? I have never ran the windows update thing before. Is this an important thing to do? I don't know anything about this kind of stuff. |

The Windows update is both a good and annoying thing. There are important things you should absolutely download as soon as they are available. These are patches that Windows puts out after determining and addressing security issues with their software. You're best off downloading all the "Service Pack" updates. The rest are miscellaneous things that are either helpful or completely useless (more of the latter, I'm afraid, than the former) and you can download them if and when you want. I don't believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that you can download anything from Windows' Update that will hurt your computer (at least anymore than Windows has already hurt it just by existing! ) |

The best ones to download are the ones that are listed as "Critical Updates"... After reading the information on the others, you should be able to figure out which you should download. As Christopher said, the ones from Microsoft are (usually) safe. Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur |
