Ever since I had the "blast" hit my home computer, I had to get rid of that then reinstall McAfee. Now when I turn on my computer, the first thing that pops up is AVSYNMGR.EXE, that there is a problem, and it has to be reported. Even though it's "reported", it doesn't go away - it keeps popping up each time the machine is turned on. Does anyone know if this is a resultant problem from the "blast" worm? |

AVSYNMGR.EXE is the McAfee VirusScan application as far as I know. So, no, it isn't necessarily an effect of Blast -- other than that you've had to re-install. If you re-installed over the web -- my guess is that part of the install failed. If you installed off disc there may be a conflict from something in the registry left over from the first install. Un-install and try again. If that fails -- you'll probaly have to contact McAfee for support. Sorry, not much help Karilea. |

I don't feel so bad now - I was hit with the same thing and wasn't able to "deal" with it until tonight... I was lucky, it seems, in that I wasn't forced to reisntall anything, just downloaded a Norton application and killed it. Hope it works for ya. |

Fortunately I'm still on 98. It works and all my software works -- and I'm not going out on the bleeding edge... heh... when my puter dies -- I'll upgrade -- but why should I mess with something that works? Just because Gates ships a new one???? NO!!! One other thing you might check Sunshine is your win.ini file. If your original install was to a different directory than your subsequent one there may be redundant commands there. Just a possibility. Hope you get it solved. |

I guess this is a good time to have an Apple instead of a PC. Ironically, worms typically prefer apples. Hope you guys get it all worked out. Stephen |
