Hi Geeks I sent this question to Ron but he is always very busy so just in case I can't reach him, I will try here too. It was on the news tonight that Shaw Cable is not giving its high speed internet customers what they are paying for, and they suggested you run a test to check your speeds. Well, I did that, but have no idea what it means. If they are cheating me the nice news lady said to call and complain and get a new modem, but I want to make sure I have a valid complaint before calling. Appreciate any answer you have time to give me and thank you. Here is what I pay for: - 5 Mb download speed - 512 Kb upload speed This is what the test said: - 4771 kbps download speed - 491 kbps upload speed |

4771 kbps download = 4.771 Mb which is certainly close to 5 Mb And 491 kbps upload is also close to 512 Kb So, yea, Sharon, you're definitely in the ballpark for what you have been promised. I reckon that's more than most woman can say? :-) Ron (My emailed answer was still in my copy & paste buffer, so ... ) |

WOW! That was fast! Thank you so much Ron, I sure appreciate it. I was not sure about the kbps/mb math. |

Actually, Sharon, my math (4.771 Mb) is only approximate. Instead of 4771/1000 it should be 4771/1024, but the former I can do in my head and the latter would require some actual work. |
