I44 to US 71 South Then the miles turn Slower as through small town signs You do 45 and wait for Old Joe To turn into the feed store I hit Rogers about 8 that evening The whole of the trip A slow journey of start and stop Tire thumping on asphalt strips Buckled under summer heat And two stops to have flats fixed Thanks to Ace and ODT. About 10,in no moon dark I found the drive to her place And nosed the truck in easy In case His truck was there And I needed to practice Self containment by leaving Quietly… That is… Her car was there But no lights were on So I pulled on in Shut off the truck and sat there Listening to the whine Of the miles driven ring In my ears and ache in my back. I saw the white spot A long time before I thought about what it might be But somewhere in my Lucy rerun sleeplessness Of the night before I had called her and she told me There would be a note on the door If she wasn’t home. I plucked it off the screen And walked back to the truck Where the dome light Let me read the short message. And find wrapped inside A cartridge from a 45 The note I folded And tucked in my shirt pocket The cartridge I just stared at On one side of the lead was Etched Lacey On the other Davis I pulled the truck Around to the side of the house And drug my sleeping bag out Spread it on the porch And listened to the coyotes Sing their version Of Lacey’s Lullaby [This message has been edited by Cpat Hair (02-27-2003 04:20 PM).] |

.....and he rambles on! (big hugggssssss) This is wonderful, sweet friend, when the coyotes cry it is more than just laments, there's something about how they do it without tension whatsoever! sigh) I can't wait to see what the next notes in the symphony will bear, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ron, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |
