    Question of Distance

There are leaves in his voice
crinkled from a long fall
mixed in with questions of distance
in between a breath of smile turns
like a piece of cool melon in summer
slipped perfectly between the teeth

a comfortable turn of head to handsome
on the sweet side of listening
his laughter rings familiar
still I feel the trees between us
tall and reproachful standing beside streets
and far in the distance
sand coats the driveway perhaps
and a volleyball sits neglected beside the door

and more a piece to learn I hum
his heart to hear the tune so touched
by the hands that hold mine just those
and a sweep of heady rush

Wow!

Martie paints a scintillating picture, and we are lucky enough to share it.

This is just so..... what's the word I'm looking for.....

Martie,

Unique is right...from the title, to the first line:

"leaves in his voice"... all the way through, incredible, enjoyable, poetry, at its finest.

Yeah, maybe that's the word -- dance.

Never read one that wasn't simply electrifying.

The distance sweeps across the heart and  takes it further than it was before.

If only we could stop the world and stay right there.  Beautiful Martie~

Just looking in the archives today, and finding such beauty here. This one almost brings tears, it is so poignant. I've read others without answering today, but I think I'll lift this one to the top where it belongs.
