Jake poured another shot and I began, again... ‘Konrad heard it, too.’ My voice echoed, safely in the distance now. I paused, trying to steady my hand enough to light a cigarette. Tequila wasn’t doing much to help. ‘Konrad heard it’, I repeated, needing to hear the echo, again. ‘He was there.’ In blood dizzied eye the reel began, though I was far from sleep and wishing badly I hadn’t eaten the worm. A calliope air over opening scene, board and child red with fresh coats for celebration, of what I didn’t know, or care. It was enough to be there suddenly, on the platform of Buffalo Grove Station. a returning? Cheers rose and fell as dominoes, until I could not find origin or intent. a homecoming? Dogs and pigs pulled ribboned wagons, filled with gift and sentiment. a welcome? It was in wondering of the object of their affection, I noticed an old man across the platform. He was barely a stub of a man his skin so loose and deeply lined no trace of story remained, just pain and anger. I watched his labored step, misstep without thought or suggestion of harm until the line cleared from his eye to mine. Across the platform of the Buffalo Grove Station, he felt me, watching him, too late to avert, I smiled and nodded. He smiled in return, for others to see. Only I, privy then to his eyes raging, swinging wildly at me as he approached lurching, then overcorrecting. Only I, heard him spit from between snarled, frothing lips, ‘This got nothin’ to do with you boy, now get.’ He turned away, grinding heel against plank, his gaze again locking its mark. I watched as he held out his hand, the calliope funneled in prism around them. ‘Konrad’, I screamed, in the whisper of dreams. But the song had already started. Konrad heard it, too. 'In drums beat that feels like lead Pulls my heart though long thought dead Through the mists where ghosts still roam My heart, now burdened, finds its home For through the nights and all my tears Still I reach to still the fear That my arms will empty, remain Till I find my love again In drums beat I hear the gray mists sigh, When is dead not dead? I cry... For pull of heart though long thought dead Beats refrain within my head In drums beat that feels like lead Pulls my heart though long thought dead Through the mists where ghosts still roam My heart, now burdened, finds its home' |

(smiles) Oh my gosh, this is excellent, the ending repetition indeed hit my heart like a gong to hear the drum beats getting more intense in yearning! (big hugggsssss) This is mighty, sweet friend, I too am curious and can't wait to see where Konrad goes from here, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Duncan, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Dunc! Slam dunk! Look at the line breaks... look at the imagery... the personification... the imagination! Where DO you get this? Looks like I have my work, err....Konrad has HIS work cut out for him... |
