Shot at! It was back in the days when I wore Navy blue; just remember the story could happen to you. I had gone to a bar with Bill Johnson to dance with some lovely young woman if I got a chance. He’d been seeing a honey, the love of his life! But I hadn’t been told she was somebody’s wife! By the close of the night he was drunk as could be So I poured him in back, hearing “what about me?” She had come with a friend but the friend found a guy So I opened her door and she scooted on by. I had learned of her life and her husband at sea; With a woman alone in such dark misery. It’s a tale so ancient when men go away; How to judge such a person who chooses to stray. She was far from her home with no children to raise. And the boredom of strangers bedeviled her days. I was taught to hold doors and escort them home, But it wasn’t for me that she’d chosen to roam. Nonetheless I was thinking I’d take her to door And I’d bid her adieu; she could ask for no more. It was only a fluke that I saw in the night That her front door was open; a freak of the light. As she stepped from the car to the man now outside, How I stepped on the gas feeling queasy inside. For I knew of the risk that my friend might behold By his love for this woman within spousal fold. I’m not proud of the way that I ran from that scene, But I knew I’d no business with what they’d between. But my tale has a twist; did you think it had not? For the car had a hole, the result of a shot. Now with Bill, that new car was a part of his soul. But he showed me with grimace; his trunk had a hole. Ken..you are SO good at these! You sure can spin a tall tale.. at least I hope they're tales! This is exceptional. Thanks for the chuckles. ~Hugs & Smiles, Nancy~ ~ Trace my body with your words.. |

You're always so kind, E, thank you, but this is not a tall tale. Smile. KJ Through rubble and trouble and dark of night |

Wow!!! I too am amazed this is based on a true story, a little too much action for one evening I must say! (big hugggssssss) This is well-reenacted, sweet friend, I send hugs out to you, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ken, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

This was very well written. I enjoyed reading it. If that was you in the car, I am glad you got away. |

Ah Ken...I'm sorry for the hole in the trunk but darn it if a memory didn't arise from the telling of this tale... thank goodness for the story tellers... of both tall, and real... |
