I should speak to you with my dead tongue tonight
phones lines will burn, sizzle, pop, blow
you’ll blow “No”, cracking the plastic
handset in a roller-coaster ride grip

click—click—click—

grease burning smell and sound of
the car being pulled up the rise
we’re at the top and there’s only that
one second God grants before we dive

I will speak to you with my dead tongue tonight
in a language you can’t understand because
I can’t comprehend you any more
Latin is as dead as we are
but it is still more loving
than we ever were

I can’t speak to you with my dead tongue tonight
not everything, not my full disclosure
there’s this cavern inside of you
I get lost, I get cold
but you always find me
with some gasoline-soaked rag
wrapped around your hand, and you light it
your arm the torch, your hand the flame
your pain forgotten when we touch
your flesh is burning, but burning for us

You always come back for me
burnt up in apology
scarred hands in regret
if you hold my face tonight
with those hands, I will forget…

Thank you ALL!

What a great thing to back to after a dr's appt.--very wonderful indeed to be here.

Now, I'm afraid--you all have inspired me to write something regarding my experience here--greatness, just greatness.   :O)

midnightsun... ya know--I had a feeling that you might have chosen that one!

Simply unbelieveable, Joe.  The references to latin are dead on.  How you tied those to what you wanted to say is perfect.
