The leaves swirl through the wintry spill,
while elms ask God if he's still there
and snow falls down on fingers l'il.

The sun sets swiftly and the chill
reflects if love is in the air,
when leaves swirl with the wintry spills.

(But embers once some time of fill,
knew warmth and God and places where
the snow fell down on fingers l'il.)

And younger hearts do turn logs still,
(and realize that some loves don't dare
whilst leaves swirl through the wintry spills.)

Perhaps the elms know winter will
set lattice flakes atop their hair
(when snow falls down on fingers l'il.)

For Heaven cannot leave until,
our fire dies--it won't, I swear
For leaves still swirl through winter spills,
and snow falls on your fingers l'il.

That's a wonderful image--the snowflakes resting on the elm leave's hair... making them almost human in representation.
