And Then There Was Love

A smile from within me rose to a song of hope,
as I stretched lazily on this rainy morning,
listening to the sounds of melting snow.

I enjoyed the pleasure of his company last evening,
his touch keeping my dreams alive, silencing
my worst enemy, his name written across my heart.

My pains falling short, on this night
I declared myself free as I slipped into his arms,
comforted by his blend of understanding,
his tenderness of eyes that could read me, knowing
that my addiction to the past needed unchaining.

I hesitated at times, pausing his lips to mine
as words of passion fed my need, nourishing the hunger,
the longing to mean something to someone.

I caught myself feeding into his words, a lesson
in warmth and affection, feeling treasured for that moment
wanting it to last the whole night through.

Today, I awoke with a song in my heart, believing in myself,
trusting the start of a new day, and thoughts of him
to secure the spirit in each step that lies before me.

Maureen, this is absolutely beautiful.  Thanks for the smile.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn
