No surprise, was my love for you... It did not suddenly burst upon the fields Of my consciousness There was no sense, or hint of shock to discover the depth of feeling That my heart could hold I was not in total awe at the reality Of the spell which I discovered Myself encaptured by; No confusion as to how to express This hitherto unforeseen emotion Which had somehow bewitched me There was no sudden awakening one morning To find myself totally in love Having gone to bed with no such Notion on my mind No road to Damascus for my heart There was no bolt from the blue... Love, was not thrust upon me Rather, the seeds of my love were planted on the day we met Then watered daily By the warmth which poured Out of a kindred soul and into My thirsty heart, Where tender roots started To take hold Where love then slowly grew, and thrived gently nurtured by The tenderness of your Every caring though and deed As the energies Of your own sweet love consumed me No, no surprise was my love For you It did not grab and roughly subdue me But caressed my every fibre until I, spellbound, simply surrendered.
