‘The casualties were light.'

So was the sky outside.
My gourmet coffee was steaming hot.
I ate my breakfast of
blueberry lite granola bars
and smoothest creamy yogurt,
as I sat reading the morning news,
waiting for the busy part of the day
to kick into full gear.
Back to the headlines,
‘the casualties were light’
and I sighed in relief until

the knock on the door,
three faces grim
that blocked out the light.

‘The casualties were light, Ms……’

You rendered so well a state of anxiety ... the momentaneous relief ... and the knock on the door which was an answer to your fears.

Great twist on the end. I still remember the stars that hung in our window for my brother and father in WWII and the conversation about "telegrams". You took me back there, Kacy, thank you. Ken

Ringo, I don't think anyone ever does.
My condolences today to Mrs. David Bloom and her three daughters, and all the others who were given the worst possible news story.
Ken, thank you for your comment. It's never a case of 'light' casualties to me.
