I’ve spent this lifetime
Collecting knowledge

Not learning, exactly

But,
More like a youngster that
Keeps the odd-shaped and
Colored stones
That he finds in his travels

Simply because they are odd
Or pretty

Or,
As an old woman
Clips and hoards coupons
That may, one day
Prove useful

For future redemption

And now

When it matters

I attempt to explain myself
And try to make sense of it all

Using pebbles
And paper

LOL true....

many people tend to think that because they've BEEN through a lot, that they've learned a lot.  Sometimes, they were just picking up lint on the towel of life...

great job!

Want to see my box of rocks?
Let me shuffle through these papers...
they're all here,
somewhere.

You know, you know....

and I sit here...grinning...

and looking at your critique message...I'm so glad the desire to write sits within you now...I don't think it's going to be a passing thing, and will last longer than decoupage....

Wranx,

Pebbles, paper and ~poetry~. That's you!

Thank you for bringing to light a pastime of mine which I thought quite odd. How nice to know I am not alone in my collecting 'pretties' and sometimes, dull 'uglies', knowing they just need a little TLC. Beach glass my favorite.

Enjoyed this, Hugs, Pat

One day last year I walked the railroad path on the Maryland Line and thought I saw heart shapes of many stones. I weighted myself  down with them..and they are still in that jacket's pocket waiting for me to give them color.
I enjoy your depth.

Great write, I can relate to this, with me knowledge and experience are pieces of a jigsaw puzzle with no frame and unfortunatly I have lost the picture from the box top... I'm still guessing, but Im glad to say as I get older more of the pieces seem to fit. Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem.

Regards,
Olias.

OK, so now I have to admit, I still collect pretty pebbles! As for the coupons, they never offer them for the things I buy!

As for this write, I'll keep it..it's a very worthy gem.
But will I learn anything from it, or will it simply sit here, waiting for my mind to see the depth of truth in it?

Pebbles and paper -- what a perfect image for it...engaging yet ultimately paltery, like it is. Nice work, Ed

Ed...  this is one of those "deceivingly simple" poems whose echos get louder rather than softer.  The last part of this poem resonates -- the simple description of pebbles and paper has many facets to it for interpretation, analogy, symbolism and reconnection to the content and intent of this poem.  Bottom line:  very well done, both as a poem and as a philosophical observation/commentary.

Ed, I think your explanation is perfectly
clear and makes perfect sense, too.

I tell you what, I'll trade you a blue one for a red one.  That was brilliant!  Just brilliant, and so darn true.  Like one of those feng shui boxes trying to get life into perspective and somehow it comes easy, at least to me.
