The Huntress
By Paul Wilson

Walking the streets at night
     Slowly looking…
hunting
staying just out of sight

A nightly ritual as city comes alive
     stalking…quietly
never making a sound
another night she must survive

Looking past the shadows of night
     Pretending too ignore
the obvious
they give up without a fight

A more deserving pray she has in sight
     Slowly…
she approaches from behind
as another stalks him from the right

Setting her trap
     the bait is fresh
Looking away, not to bring attention
a second too late her prey gone in a snap

The hunt is over…for awhile
     It’s time too rest
As the sun begins it's rise
a stranger greets her with a smile

Old man sweeps the sidewalk… remains
     of last nights hunt
She stops too ask him for a smoke
he says sorry…and explains

(I gave them up in 69)

Shadows rise
as mannequin smiles greet the morn
She walks the well worn path
of memories… as she slowly dies

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Paul, this is so very heartachingly well-written, dearest friend, it saddens me to see so many truly feel alone and search for something they haven't had and you never know where they've gone again! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, I send angel hugs out to you, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Paul, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

This is a very touching write. I feel so sorry for the homeless. If people only knew, there would be so many stories out there on the streets.
I wasn't sure that the poem wasn't about an animal, until the verse about asking the man who swept the sidewalk for a smoke.
Very good writing, friend.
Hugs,
Ethel

Noah, Ethel, Marge, Maureen & Marghertia
Thanks to all of you for reading and replying.I really appreciate it.

As I was writting this, I started out with the idea that it would be about a lady of the night, trying to survive the only way she knew how and about half way through it I thought it could also be about a lady Vampire
looking for her next victim.
