If I should say that we're intimate
I know it would turn some heads
Folks would reach the conclusion
We don't occupy separate beds.
But while it's true that physical
Intimacy is lots of fun,
It's only one form of closeness -
There's a more important one.
Bodies can age, disintegrate
But when a melding of the souls
Exists between well-matched hearts
Orgasms aren't their only goals.
Clasped hands offer assurance
Each is where they want to be
A smile, a kiss, apt attention
Create a special intimacy.
To recognize a kindred mind
And share the contents of one's heart
Is to have an intimate friend
Even when bodies are far apart.
And that's what I have with you, dear
An intimate rapport
You understand and accept me -
I couldn't really ask for more
But that we continue for always.
You simply are this world's best
And being a special friend to you
Is my greatest happiness.

Suthern, I understand completely. I am so
thankful that my Love and I are also
best friends. We were friends before we
fell in love. I think a person has to
really like  another
person before they can  love
them the way they should.

A very good and truthful poem, friend.
Thank you for sharing your heart.

Heart Hugs,
Ethel

Yeppers...you hit the nail on the head...
and did so with your gift of rhyme divine.
Ya know...ya better be careful -- if you keep writing this lovely heart on sleeve poetry...someone might think ya a moth *LOL*
(and ya see how well it works for me) haha rofl
All kidding aside--this is really a gem of pen and heart poetess Ruth..and a sweet, sincere, sharing of your words.

Such well-written poetry.

This line:

"To be understood and accepted"...

That is what it's all about and you captured it perfectly. I love this poem.

It's uplifting.

The greatest compliment I can give
is that I wish I had written this...
that I did not, but am glad that you did...
I can only offer my deepest respect
for a write well done...

This is beautiful...
it's a
because you understand
what is Really Important...

Sounds to me like it was written by someone not getting any!!

Aw, Suthern gal, you know me better than that. You are certainly right in what's important in life. It's just that i know you wrote it with Toerag in mind and I had ta say SOMETHING!!..'cause I agree that any form of intimacy would be preferable to playing bumper bodies with that bozo! My skin is crawling at the thought!!!

Ah, the forms there are of love....so many true and long and knowing kinds of love.

...and to think are many who seem actually to prefer the kinds of quick, short, dispassionate passion that seem so thin by comparison....

Suthern...What makes this poem such a standout is the pure love radiating from its words and the honesty of your heart in the the way it perceives what a true love is. You have what many of us have only dreamed of. Wonderful poem. ***Ivy Rose

Ruth, I am so happy that I discovered - finally - this sparkling gem. More even than closeness it is ONENESS and it is really independent of physical touch, even though the latter does complete it if it happens to be there too...... if, but not NECESSARILY ...
Thank you for saying it so graciously.
Love, Margherita
