~*~

A storm is coming,
I can feel it in the air.
There is a sense of anticipation
in the stillness.
Gathering clouds are beginning to
swirl in the darkening sky as warm air
rushes in to fill the void.
Flashes of lightening streak
the charged atmostphere followed
by the deafening roar of thunder
that reverberates against my chest.
As the firmament unleashes its
formidable power, I feel so small.
Within moments the skies open up
releasing heaven's pent-up tears.
The parched land drinks deeply as
its life is renewed.
With the churning of the soil,
an earthy fragrance
is released into the electrified night air.
The cooling rain brings relief from
the oppressive heat of this
sweltering summer's day.
Dried riverbeds begin to flow
with the enervating forces of the storm
and nature is in balance once more.

~*~

(smiles) Yay! Oh Linda, this is wonderful, sweet friend, I love thunderstorms and I hope soon here we get a lot more as despite the huge blizzard we got a week and a half ago, we still have high drought concerns! (kiss on cheek) You always make Mother Nature smile with your precious poetry, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Noah, the weather has been so changeable here. One minute you have a snowstorm, the next you have a thunderstorm!
I love thunderstorms! I find them invigorating and cleansing...

My sweet sister, this line,

is to die for. How I adore your words and that smell and it's why digging in the dirt is my passion. .

Loved all your words ... huggles, Marti

I might have picked any of your phrases, (I liked  Marti's too) but this reminds me of my Minnesota boyhood.  (Btw, how did anyone from Ontario write this?  Thought you were in igloos all  year? Ouch Ouch...) Ken

The negative ions that are produced from a storm are very healing. I love the sights, the smells and the energy of thunderstorms. It gives me pleasure that you can identify with my portrayal of them....Enjoy the one you are presently experiencing! Thank you for your comments!

Very nice - well written. After such a hard winter I long for the sights and sounds of a good thunderstorm. Your poem brought it to me.

One summer night in 1952, my 12th birthday, we had a storm just like this that shook and thundered my world.  That's what I really found in your poem...not an igloo.  :-)  Ken
