“I want a happy ending” she said
after reading all that had been bled
onto pages that covered time
and heartaches.

“Then you write it.”
I replied with a fear that if I tried
It would twist again into the
Morass of tangled lines
That ended in a road somewhere
Between hills and prairie
Flanked by brown grass burning

I choked back acrid tears
“ I don’t think I can.”

“No’ She replied in firm
“I won’t write it, it is yours.”

I read a few lines,
Read again what had happened so far
And knew I could write something more
But not an ending of grace
For I am awkward in Life.

“It is too much of me.”
I offered at last
“I can not end it in happy”
“I do not know it yet.”

“Perhaps,” she said with a sigh
“You are a fool after all.”

I feel as if I have seen or heard this somewhere...guess it's just me.

Just because you don't know what the happy ending is yet, doesn't make you a fool....remember learning in school what a self-fulfilling prophecy is?  Stay away from unhappy endings in your head...it's not over till the fat lady sings!!!!!!

You are fortunate in that your Muse will at least engage in a conversation with you!--Mine flits off into the ethers and pays me no mind at all!

Peace & Light,

I wish my muse would sit still long enough to get after me,
to write more..write better..LOL...just to write.
May I borrow yours for a bit?
Enjoyed the conversation..I feel as though I have been eavesdropping.

Your muse is too demanding. Ditch her!

I was thinking at first that your muse doesn't quite understand~that you will recover in your own good time and write happy musings when you feel ready...then i thought about how your muse might know how compelling you is better for you, however hurtful it may seem...sometimes, we must force ourselves to move on and not wallow in misery, even when it's the last thing on earth we want to do...

thought-provoking piece..i like!

Capt....very well done. You are one of my favorite poets. Your work causes me to feel things I haven’t felt in a long time...and Capt you are NO fool... you are a impressive writer/poet! Great work.

Yes, I am.

This...is from very deep within...
at least it would have been
had I written it...

Thank you, Cap'n

An interesting dilemma...  but I guess it beats writer's block, eh?

It has been my experience of not knowing how happy I was until something really sad/bad happened.

If not happy, at least comfortable.

Guess it is different things for different people.

Another interesting write. Pat

If you muse calls you a fool, fire her! Get a new one! For you, of all people, are not a fool.

Enjoyed this! (How many poems do we write to/about/for our muse?)

We only know what experience and our senses tell us, everything else is at best an educated guess.  I've never been a real good guesser!

For some reason these lines right here touched me ever so deeply. I know, and oh how I understand, and this really touched my soul.
