Cedar Tree
By: Noah Eaton
3/23/03

(Verse 1: Acoustic)

She leaves her diary on the coffee table
Beside her old wicker chair
She hops out onto the garden
Still wearing her nightgown, brushing her long hair
She looks upon a yellow ribbon
Tied around the trunk of a cedar tree
Beside an empty well
Too anxious just to see…

(Pre-Chorus 1: Acoustic)

Her anxiety is bottled up inside her
Like a shipwreck at Anegada
She can feel the lightning crashing
Playing charades she can’t comprehend
Her heart bleeding as purple
As a sunset in Martinique
But she still holds the Torah under her arm
Believing the Lord is following him…

(Verse 2: Dance Beats Introduced, Acoustic/Electric Mix)

On an elderly branch there rests a Bullock’s Oriole
Keeping her company on long afternoons
She swears she sees golden apples sometimes
Other times she finds the acorns falling too soon
And the southern breeze is but a remedy
And the cedar trees dance when she feels emmetropic
She can see clearly now
The trees too are sympathetic

(Pre-Chorus 2: Acoustic/Electric/Dance Mix)

Her anxiety is bottled up inside her
Like a shipwreck at Anegada
She can feel the lightning crashing
Playing charades she can’t comprehend
Her heart bleeding as purple
As a sunset in Martinique
But she still repeats Psalm 104
Believing the Lord is following him…

(Chorus: Acoustic/Electric/Dance Mix)

"So spread the light to him like a tent,
Raise his palace safely on the waters
Make the clouds his chariot
Have these cedars of Lebanon provide him shelter
I want the moon to mark his seasons
I want the sun to know their settings
I want the oil to gleam his face
I want your Grace, Lord"

(repeat chorus 3X, fades...)

***Quoted Portion includes lines from Psalm 104***

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Noah, how I wish that I could hear your songs! I know that your voice would truly be the voice of an angel...pure, sweet...and with the ring of truth, love, beauty and wisdom--as does your poetry!

Love & Light,
Linda
