I'm just wondering
Can't we just
Turn down the volume
Even if it's just for tonight
I think my dreams
Grow tired
And my heart wary
From all this running
War marching
Over the frequency
Death and perspective
Knocking on my door
And here we are
Lying in bed
Trying to chase away our own demons
Can't we
Oh God
Just can't you
Turn down the volume
I know the saying
If it doesn't kill you
It will only make you stronger
It totally
Puts everything into perspective
For me right now
But I feel so
Irritated so
Frustrated
It seems like
We have to
I have to
Grow up too fast
I just feel terribly lost
And extremely bad
Death and reality
Perspective and war
Knocking
Pounding
Down my door
I hear the angels
Playing on my radio
Heavenly tunes
I'm always a day late
To get the news
I didn't get the memo
I didn't get the fax
Because now
I just found out
That Heaven
Took one of their daughter's back...

I think you just said what many here are feeling. Your writing grows stronger.

From beginning to end, you had my attention. I, and most likely most of the other readers of this poem, feel the same way.
--and yes, "Heaven took one of it's daughters back."---perhaps to spare her even more grief...

Peace & Light,

Kristen you write with such eloquence and empathy, though this hurt to read I had to smile at your talent unfolding on these pages

God, I love that title. And the poem is clear-eyed upon the truth, and about being forced to grow up in a really crappy time to grow up in. I hope this makes it into the book, despite its length.

Touching, so very touching.

Sometimes we have to follow a stronger voice, even if it's silent.

Beautifully done. I think we've all felt this way, and prayed this prayer.
