A young man
Just before he was snet overseas
To fight in the war
Found his mate to be

Everynight he prayed
That he would come
Back alive
To his one and only

The night before he left
He married
His beloved

And as he boarded the plane
He looked back
And saw his wife in tears
But she was still
Strong enough to salute him
Before he entered the plane

He sent her postcards
And letters
Whenever he could
But they were few and far between

One day his wife
Stopped getting letters
And she knew
He wasn't going
To be coming
Home ever again

One day a knock came
On her door
She opened it
To two army officers
And she knew
The news
She was fixin' to get

When she heard
He was dead
She broke down
And sobbed
Like her heart was just ripped out

But she will never
Stop loving
Her travellin' soldier
Even though
He is dead

Cold hands means a warm heart

That definitely describes our love Julie.

What is life without poetry and adventure?
"Little sister" is just another way of saying "Guardian Angel"!

Such a sad write that happens too often during these troubled times.

realities of events like this make it just so devistating...
full of love's passion, but pain. If this didn't actually happen it would be much easier to read.
well done

This is a wonderful poem. Its just a shame that the world still has so much hate for this to happen.
Great work!

Julie, this is a very beautiful, though sad, poem.

Painful to envision--but very well-written! You are growing in leaps and bounds as a writer, Dear Julie!

Peace & Light,
EA
