All I’ve loved so well All I’ve tried so much On a damson evening that may be Autumn The colours I see are darkened leafs Saying goodbye, standing on the platform I’m going to board the last train to night-time Not awake but not asleep Reflex alone keeps me running Not a thought, just distant walks Dark governing trees and black ditches in the road I was scared to be left there Menaced by the shadows Lying on a back seat Hear the engine hum Moving now, going home Distant echoes and distant times Make it feel like another world Yawning and asleep You’ve cried distressed Betrayed as the mess Comes to repossess All you ever need and then some more At the foot of a bad idea At the mercy of a faultless system Tricks and tears and assertions and fears Glad to be released but believe your ears When you’re on the outside of truth Truth knows what truth is And only that alone And the truth will lock it’s people up And never let them get to learn too much And spiralling around we don’t realise as such Like life itself a blueprint written That can never be seen And you can’t see it because you can’t get outside it And you can’t get outside it because you’re it Sperari |
