Blackberries --- challenge from Sunshine |

She took the biggest bowl they had and went in search to find. The largest sweetest blackberries, sun ripened on the vine. She trudged out to the farthest point within her backyard world. A worthy helper was this small, sun freckled little girl. The sun was hot upon her head, no breeze to lift her hair. But she waded through the tall grass to the vines she knew were there. With dreams of pies and sweet jam made by Grandma's practiced hand. She battled through the grass and weeds as tall as she could stand. She placed the berries in the bowl as gently as she could. She remembered Grandma's warning bruising berries wasn't good. In her mind she'd been gone hours, wisps of hair were hanging loose. Her tiny arms were tired, fingers stained with berry juice. Grandma praised her findings saying what a help she'd been. "Why, with all these berries, won't ever have to pick again." Grandma cleaned and sugared them and after she was done. Placed in front of her, her bounty cream and berries, enough for one. Remember me with a smile on your face, or please don't remember me at all. |

Yes! You're coming cross marvelously and for some reason, plucking these out of mine own memory banks...thank you so much for graciously accepting these small little challenges... |

Lucie--I didn't have blackberries where I grew up, only a plum or two..but this still brought home the sweetness of youth. |

Oh my... this set my mouth watering and my mind remembering You cannot know how many blackberry thorns I picked out of my hands as a child - and how very worth it every thorn was LOL - my great-aunts made the best blackberry cobbler and topped it with homemade ice cream. June isn't the same without it anymore! Thanks for this Lucie - gosh.. it is terrific! the only man worth your tears will never make you cry |

Blackberries, grapevines and mulberries in my backyard growing up. Only bad part the grapes attracted tons of bees and the blackberries were right next to them. I enjoyed this poem very much |
