Lacey showed up about 7 Her car rolling to stop on the gravel And the sun long past center Still beating August heat I hadn’t seen her in a couple of days So wasn’t surprised at the visit But was surprised when she got out Wearing a dress. “What’s the occasion?” I asked while hoping it wasn’t a funeral. “Go get cleaned up.” She answered I’ll show you. She waited while I showered, Found a pair of khakis and decent shirt Then brushed the dust off a pair of loafers. I came out and she whistled low Then laughed a wise assed remark About having no idea I cleaned up so well. “Where we going?” I asked. “Shutup.” She growled and motioned me to her car. I crawled in on the passenger side And let her drive the winding two lanes To the blues from B.B. for a while Before daring speak again. “You’re heading east, we going to Eureka?” “Shutup.” She laughed and turned the volume up. B.B. was belting out “Why I sing the Blues” To her sly smile. About 15 miles outside of Eureka we turned of On a dirt road that followed the King river Along treed bluffs that shut out late evening sun And left me feeling like the world of The Plains, broad grasslands with open sky, Could not exist in the same world She pulled onto an even smaller track that headed downhill, And coasted to a stop at a place the Kings had carved enough valley To allow long narrow fields to flank each side. “Get out, and help me get the stuff out of the trunk.” She laughed. “We carried blanket and basket along with a cooler to the edge of the river then went back and got a couple of lanterns she had stuck in amongst extra camera gear and a suitcase. “Now,” she said to me “Pretend we have no pasts and light a fire.” “I packed supper in the basket so we can eat anytime.” “Why the dress? “Momma always told me to dress nice for a date.” “Since you weren’t asking me, I figured I better make a move.” Her move turned into a flickering fire As stars sprinkled the bluff cut black above us Then to magic As she slipped the dress off over her head And fireflies began to rise Gracing me with beauty On both accounts [This message has been edited by Cpat Hair (03-05-2003 06:46 PM).] |

Seems to be a lot of sexual tension in the air today...or is it just me? Oh story teller, do write me more You are the reason I adore the written word, it's what I long for Susan |

![]() (smiles) Seriously I think you are one of the best tale writers since Robert Pirsig, you seem to know the real zen of the roads and by-ways by the back of your hand, or wherever you have them anyway! (big hugggssssss) I love this, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ron, thank you for sharing! ![]() May love and light always shine upon you! “Momma always told me to dress nice for a date.” “Since you weren’t asking me, I figured I better make a move.” May be just the woman Travis is needing... ![]() |
