the world waits longer to darken itself these days
choosing instead to clothe itself in that
salmonpinkpurple veil
in front of mirrored lenses that yearn to see beyond the horizon

as the sky changes color again
diesel eyes open to a world of gray and black
a world where all that matters is
                                           the line

the pulse begins again
it's a sound that the world only makes now
when cities adorn themselves in silver
and the shoulder forests hold secrets you could
         never begin to know

turn the radio on
yes, turn the radio on and find me that 1500 watt AM station
on a lonely stretch of 75 just over the Michigan line
where I can hear C.W. McCall and Red Sovine
tell the stories of my life
a life that I may not have been called to
       but yet, is my own
a life where all that matters is where's the next good cup of joe
and what city lies just over the hill
a life where the only road that matters
       is the road back home

he sets down his cup
"this one's on me"
                 "much obliged"

the engine roars
       the smoke billows
electric jewels adorn the chrome

and, as he goes down that road again
I find that I am glad
           that he's not going

                                          somewhere I've been

------------------------------------------------------------------

To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world.

Sven, I have missed your poetry.
The visuals in this are a fine compliment to the message.

electric jewels adorn the chrome.

Very nicely penned Sir~

I wish all that mattered was that simple cup of joe.  Life would be so much easier!  Talking over everything so cooly, calmly and colectively.  why isn't it that way?
