I have a question. I know it's considered 'stealing' to link a graphic directly to a web site that isn't your own. SO? Could Passions get in trouble if say, I wanted to have a graphic in one of my poems and just linked it to the FBI site (as an example)? They probably would just tell me to stop right? And with so many poets using graphics in their poetry, how can we tell (without viewing the source) if they are linked to another site? AND how do we get them to stop if they are? whew! |

If you claim ownership of the picture you might be in trouble. All graphics and text on the web are protected by the copyright law. "Ã…ndsverkloven" as we call it in Norway. It's bad netiquette to "steal" anything. If you got the owners permission on the other hand.. Oh forgot, most gfx-junkies (like myself) uses DigiMarc or something equal to that, to protect our graphics. You can then use in my case a digimarc-reader to find out who the owner is. I believe that linking directly to graphics on the web is not a good idea. Most larger sites now have tracers, and there could be a problem if it is traced back to you, which is very possible. If there's a real question of using a graphic, usually the owner can be contacted through the site's email, and most of the time permission is granted if you put a link back to them on your project. I do this on my site with various artists, and it's free advertising for their site. Don't be afraid to ask. as 99% of the time, they will ok it. The other way to use graphics came from Christopher, when I asked months ago about using them here on my posts. He pointed me toward www.stasnet.com, (and there are lots of others), where I am able to upload unlimited graphics, categorize them, and then keep them on stasnet's site for free. I put a copy of everything I upload on a zip disk for reference, and that leaves more room on my hard-drive. After you have your graphics uploaded, you can then write in the graphic url from stasnet into your post, and your graphics will appear in your post. Hope this helps....... (P.S......I just read Denise's post, and realized that you knew all of this anyway!! Sorry, but maybe you could use the Stasnet info!! ~~~ enjoy yourself ~~~ it's later than you think!
