This fairly new member posted a poem.......
(I edited out the link so I wouldn't embarrass, maybe)

You can see what the title says. What I noticed was this.......
The ones who complain about others not replying to their poems, or their friends poems, have not replied to this poets poem. Well, not yet anyway.  I was just wondering why not?

The title of the post kind of made me have to look at it. It was like he was pleading with people to read his poem.

Does anyone have any opinions on this? Do be nice, please.

some people are turned off by begging. I usualy click them and find out that they are not great. but I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about

I think people who do this, end up still not getting what they want, they get sympathy replies, and advice. But good advice from more knowledgable members.

Yeah, begging, its a turn off, of course it is. I suppose its hard when members first get here, no one replies, it's happened to us all. I think you get as much as you give.

and a lot of the time, those who complain, have more origionating threads than replies made to others. thats where i get impatient sometimes. even when people do know the 3 posts to every one, people dont care. we all post and run sometimes, busy lives etc, but i know when i do, i makesure the next time i come back i reply to much more than 3 poems. but we can't all reply to everyone, as we know.

some people I think, just dont take time to get a feel of the place, get to know people. they jump in too quick, have high expectations, feel people are obliged to read and reply to their poems.

I can understand that maybe some of these people don't, are excited about being posted and are hungry for critiqing etc. but as we know, it doesn't work like that.

On a happier note, there are loads of us who do love reading eachothers work. I love adding otherspieces to my library, and damn, how much inspiration do ya get form other peoples words.

thats my view. if it doesn't make sense, it's because i have the worlds most excrutiating stomach cramps, i think i've got food poisoning. and this has taken my mind off it.

And, its my first day back at college tomorrow, andidont want to miss it, but i cantstand up!

Instant karma's gonna get you.

Liz, I did have the link here, but I took it out, in case this person came back here later and saw the link. I really didn't want to embarrass him by putting the link there.
.

Gemma, you made some very good points. There is no way that each one of us can read every single poem that's posted. I used to try to, but I couldn't do it. I read and reply to as much as I can, but I've been sick lately, too, and can't stay on here so much.
I'm sorry to hear that you're sick. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm going to miss you not being able to be on here so much when you go back to college. Take care of your stomach cramps.

Thanks you two....

I read the poem, it was a good one, but I read it out of pity which is not right. I am sorry that this person needed to beg to get the amount of replys that they did. sometimes...well you guys know how I am, I post maybe two a week, and replys range from 8 to 40. I think someone needs to tell him that we arn't out to get him, and making friends helps people learn to appreciate your work. At first, I didn't have many friends here, but then someone said something really nice about me and a couple people here. (he knows who he is )I started reading them, and I now get all these great replys, people to talk to and wonderful poetry to read. I think coming back here helps a lot to. A lot of my friends here are the ones that like to banter in the poetry challenge

well once in awhile, it might not hurt some of us to search out those with only one or no replies..just to bump them up and give them a fair chance...when I do that whether to new poets or those who are veterans it usually brings on some others to read and respond....

I do that often and  I don't expect them to respond back to my poems...I just feel good  giving them a chance whether they are"good" poems or not...which of course is all personal taste.

M

I also think that when they first come here and are welcomed with 10 -12 or more  first replies greeting their first poems, they  expect  it to be like that all the time...a little deceptive.

I think just because one does not reply to a poem does not mean the poem was not read.  I don't think it should be a competition. It's about poetry and should be written for your own satisfaction.

However, I do understand that sometimes it is nice to get feedback and a pat on the back for a job well done.  There is nothing wrong in that.  But I think you should remember that it's not Quantity but Quality. The most important is what you the poet thinks of your work not whomever reads that poem.  Anyway, just my 2 cents.

You're right, Miah. But, I imagine it is kind of discouraging when someone spends the time to write a poem and it only gets one or two replies. I am very blessed that so many people read my poetry. I really do appreciate each and every one of them, too. I have gotten very much encouragement from all you sweet people here at Passions. And I do thank you all!!

Well...I don't think they should even have to ask.  It only takes a second to go down the column see those poems not getting responses and give one   If everyone decided to read at least 3 poets they don't know a day, then all would mend itself maybe?

Mysteria, yes!! Wouldn't that be great? Then nobody would feel left out.

It wouldn't take that much time to read 3 poems of the ones we don't know, now would it people?? Let's try it, okay?

Thanks ya'll!!

Oh, by the way, Raph...if things keep going like they have today with the replies to my poems, I may have to ask people to read them. (not really...I'm just kidding)

Anyway, in this post of mine, we're looking for the same solution, don't you think?

I guess, sometimes, I try to reply as much as I can to people's posts. I also find, that at times, even the most great of pip poets get few replies to some of their work.

Granted, at moments, I don't feel up to clicking and replying to bunches of poetry, so I just reply to one or two.. Which I feel is kind of neccesary, otherwise all the replies I give would become redundant (I guess?).

I've had one or two poems that have gone with one, or even no replies..at all. I don't take this to heart, and I don't feel it means that the poem itself is bad.. maybe sometimes, there are no words to describe the utter amazement I've given you with my words! lol..

Anyway, seeing as though I'm rambling, and I may even be way off topic.. I'll stop now before I go too far..

Kaoru, you have described exactly how I feel when I read some of the poems.....I am so amazed at the depth of the writing that I just have no idea what to say, so I say nothing. I do try to at least say a little something when I read a poem, so that I can let the writer know I've read it.

Ethel, this is exactly why this post /pip/Forum82/HTML/000254.html came to be.  Some of our male and female poets just reach in so dang deep...anything we might say becomes almost mundane...

Sometimes...silence is SO loud on the heels of appreciation...

Ethel...you do respond to things that you don't understand and it makes me feel happy that you appreciate those things. and sunshine's poem is wonderful and uplifting..for those of you wonderful poets who should get way more credit than you do

I don't post much here anymore.... I come by for a read now and then but I kinda got despondent about slipping down the page so fast and on to #2 and oblivion because there were a few posters out there who would flood the open with 7 poems at a time... that's not fair.... But first they would slide into each first page post and post the a simple generic "I liked this." more than likely just to let those people know that they were there... it's the reciprical I post to yours, you post to mine mentality that keeps them floating on page 1 with seven well-centered no-rhymers ranging in topic from the stopped up drain to hair colour blues and my dad doesn't understand me! (pout)
Yeah, label me a cynic. The idea Legion had about an "Anonymous poster forum" got me thinking.  I read everything.  And, yeah, I give alot of advice just because I wanna let the writer know I've read the poem.

Just stopped in to rant a little... this topic will still be fresh and fragrant in another year....LOL

Gonna go read some more POETRY...
