I am 23 and he got on my case about having my pic up here. He threatens to check my e-mails. Once he deleted all my contacts on my MSN messenger saying I didn't need to speak to those people anymore. Now he is trying to get me to delete everybody from all my messengers. People I have know over a year. What should I do? Please I need advice. Cold hands means a warm heart |

That could make a warrior cry. Your Dad must be stopped! I declare the Mortal Kombat tournament open! My first opponent: yo' Daddy! What is life without poetry and adventure? |

It is nice that your parents love you and are concerned. Perhaps it is time for you to get your own apartment? |

We've all made some wonderful friends here. We're also careful about whom we should develop close friendships with. Your dad has your best interests in mind. He doesn't know these people as you do. People who don't converse online don't understand that real relationships are developed here, and that they become as important to us as our 'real time' ones. He knows that there are some bad apples out there in the cybersphere (as there are in real time) and he's trying to protect you. His motives are admirable. However - You've been an adult for a good five years now. All he can do is hope that he's instilled some good judgment into you. You have to make your own choices about your personal friendships and where you choose to develop them. He can be pleased that you're not going out to the local pubs and pick-up joints, don't you think? Listen to his message - Be cautious - Don't get involved with anyone you're not 100% sure of... But in the end, make your own choices and kindly let him know that you're doing so. |

Gently remind him you are 23, not 2 or 3. And perhaps, it is time to consider independent living quarters? But remember, his intentions are good, though these actions are unacceptable. My opinion, anyway. |

I have to agree with the others here. I know it's frustrating to be treated as a child, but I believe that your Dad cares about you and loves you very much. With all the "internet tragedies" that happen, I can understand his concern. I hope the two of you can find a happy medium! ~Sheri |

Yes that make you mad although I have never known my dad, if I had known him and he did that to me I would be really mad. Although he probably has good intentions and he doesn't want to see you get hurt or anything. He probably still wants you to be his little girl, and not grow up. But you should talk to him about it and ask him what his intentions are and why he wants you delete all of your friends on your buddy list. Then once you have talked with him about it you can tell him why you like these people, and offer to let him maybe talk to one or two of these people once to let him get to know who are talking to. Also you could offer to help make him a screen name and let him find his own people to talk to. Anyways I hope you and your dad work everything out. Best wishes, Andrea |

Then u need encryption. I always use my computer with the assumption that people are watching. So back up your contact lists, get an email account and continually switch passwords, delete cookies, selectively delete internet history, get an erasing program that will shred files and make the deleted data inaccessable. U know, standard operating procedure, lol. "If history is to change, let it change. If the world is to be destroyed, so be it. If my fate is to die, I must simply laugh" |

If he is trying to keep you away from us, just make him get to know us before he decides that we are dangerous. Overprotective parents are a pain, and I am a teenager so maybe this is not the best thing for me to say to someone who is 23, but you have to rebel. I would just tell him that if anything happens to you that it is your fault and that he just needs to let you get on with your life. Don't mean to come off harsh |
