You know Ron, I've often thought we're of the same mind once in a while ... but fancy we're of the same name!

OK, just a little ticked off with this chap. I was going to write him my standard blurb on copyright infringement, and then decided if he'd pilfered one of mine, he may have copied some other poets from here.

This is his main page:   http://snypr911.tripod.com/index1.htm
The poetry is under his "Reflections" category beneath Edgar Allan Poe ...

Well, surprise, surprise!

As a former Marine, I find it sad someone would, with one hand, put so much hard work and effort into promoting the tenets of the USMC and then, with the other hand, bring such shame to those philosophies by stealing the work of others.

Using the words of another without asking permission is deplorable. Using someone else's words and signing your own name to them - as you have done with virtually EVERY poem listed in your Reflections section - goes beyond deplorable. It is despicable. You have stolen from these people, just as surely as if you had walked into their homes and taken their money. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I will expect every one of these instances of plagiarism to be removed immediately. Delay will result in complaints to Tripod, NamesDirect, Vanderbilt University and anyone else I can find.

I sent that directly to his email address at brandon.d.bowlin@vanderbilt.edu AND posted it in his forums...

Many thanks Ron, please let me know his response.  I had very little tolerance for this fellow with the number of repeat offenses I was finding, but then I clicked on his main page, and somehow it made me even angrier. I knew you'd handle him much better than I ...

Very well worded - Thank you ...

Arghh!!! - Does it ever end?

I've spent the better part of the last week chasing down plagiarists, and then, only with limited success.

It's really quite unnerving to see other people so blatantly applying their names to what is not theirs.

It usually takes quite a bit to upset me - but I find myself getting there quite quickly over this issue.  Is there nothing more that can be done about this?  Perhaps something to prevent this or at least make it less enticing for these crooks...

This really makes me wish to go back to the days when NO-ONE ever saw a thing I wrote...

Please forgive me - I'm just voicing my frustrations...

It's not empty, Sharon, but it has been pared down to just four poems....

LOL.

Yea, his forums are now completely empty. Maybe he couldn't figure out how to get rid of my post without clearing the whole thing?

But the poems listed above are also gone. Sadly, I find myself wondering from where he stole the remaining four?

Michael, don't get frustrated. Just quit dragging your feet and get famous! It's inevitable anyway, and can you imagine someone posting The Raven and signing their name to it?

If I could find just a few more hours in the day, or a few more days in the week, I STILL intend putting together a system to deal with this crap. I want a public page where everyone found plagiarizing is openly listed, where a click of a button will send the appropriate emails, and where we'll have the tools to more easily track them down. I also want to give a "Slime Award of the Month" award to guys like this one.

I see all the links are now dead-ends Ron ... it appears that your letter had appropriate weight for someone to take notice and force removal of the work.

And Michael ... I'm sorry it's been so frustrating. I do understand, but I hope you don't mind me saying that your work was some of the first work I read from the main site, and I'm so appreciative you have it posted there. In a sense ... you, and a few others I read there initially, actually got me writing seriously again.  Your writing clearly touches so many people in so many ways, and the reader's comments that follow your poems are endearing.  Please don't let these jerks ruin it for you and for all those who enjoy your work as much as I do ...

LOL, I missed your last paragraphs somehow when I read your comment a minute ago Ron.  Funny, my husband was suggesting the same thing ... a "Hall of Shame" for literary thiefs. I'd love to see that.

Ron, you mean I'm not famous yet?  Well, I'm likely to make the news for killing someone if this continues, would that count?

I'm only joking of course - but I will not be at fault if I inadvertently email bomb a few of these bozos.

I have to agree with you, though, this guy definately takes the cake as far as slime goes.

Kit, love Hall of Shame idea as well...  LOL

This happened back in March as well. Check this link for more info: Purloined Poetry. (BTW, Ron? When I did a search in the Alley for this thread, I couldn't find it...using smart search, I found it in Lounge/Alley.   )

Ron, I wonder if its posible to put a search button that would take random content from our poems listed at passions and invoke the search engins to check if our stuff is out
there.

Parker, the best way I've found to do a search like that is from using Copernic 2001. I take a random line, and the program searches 21 major engines, compiling multiple hits on one line...very handy, very easy to use and understand...and the really good part is....Copernic 2001 is FREE! (basic features only, but I have yet to find a need for advanced features)

Hope this helps out.

Alicat

Ali ... THANK YOU!

I searched for what you suggested above and downloaded Copernic 2001 basic from here:
http://www.zdnet.com/products/stories/reviews/0,4161,2629100,00.html

Easy to download, install and start searching ... but what I absolutely LOVE   is that all my search criteria is SAVED in a wonderful simple list.  That's what I've been needing!!! Now all I have to do is create the key phrase search, do it once, and a few weeks later, do it again at the click of a button to review a refreshed search with any new links it searches out.

Perfect Ali ... I can't thank you enough! I hope ya don't mind a   for that suggestion!
