The horror stories are not only true, they are worse than I imagined, and more numerous than the local rumors. And btw? If you haven't watched the new HBO series "Treme"? It might help to explain why people feel so passionately about New Orleans. The only problem I have with that HBO show is that I'm not sure if people from elsewhere will know how real it is, because I do know it's real, and it wasn't until I spent some time out of the city that I came to understand how different, how precious the culture of New Orleans is, in actuality... I love this city so very fiercely, and nope, this post is not about a blame game, just one of my occasional reality checks, because none of us should ever forget--because it can happen again, anywhere, and another city might not be as resilient. I wouldn't know. I've not much experience with which to make such a comparison. N'awlins. I love her. |
