. Whether it’s Obama or Clinton, (both of whom said they would pull out of Iraq), the Democrats are expected to have a tough race against McCain. Tet in 1968 was a military disaster for the NVA and VC with the loss of some 45,000 casualties, (this estimate is from Victor Hanson’s Carnage and Culture), and yet was a political victory ultimately leading to their winning the war. Why shouldn’t Al Qaeda attempt a similar campaign in Iraq shortly before the American Presidential elections in November? It wouldn’t take tens of thousands of troops; rockets, and a hundred or so suicide bombers around that country could do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tet_Offensive . |
