I heard on NPR this morning that, in Australia, store Santas are not allowed to use the words, "Ho! Ho! Ho!" this year. It could be taken as a slur on women and will not be allowed. They will, instead, use "Ha! Ha! Ha!. That's appropriate... |

very silly!!! are you sure that it is true? Ho Ho Ho is for raindeer. Ha ha ha is for horse, right? Now I see why you said that it was appropriate. Do you have their code? |

For as long as that jolly fellow has been around he has said ho, ho, ho besides a Hoe is a flat edged tool used in gardens not a lady of questionable value. Besides who isn't called a hoe any more save for the nuns. |

Yep, the phrase has been around forever but the world has changed, I suppose. This is no dig at Australia. I'm surprised the U.S. hasn't done the same, with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson leading the charge. |

So they go from Ho to Ha, and if the subcultures start using Ha in their music & lingo to signify the word Harlot, they'll change it to He, which would be discriminatory favoritism or a slur against heathens.... Merry friggin' Xcommunication. |

speaking of the phonetics of hoe... when teaching third graders (8 yr olds) words with the long o sound... when that word came up and they were asked what its definition was...certain children covered their mouths with their hands and made a "big deal" out of it. Teaching is almost becoming a "chore" today because of what even the youngest children are hearing and learning that is well beyond their y(ears)! feeling dismayed~~ M |

Actually, there is a rumor going around that the Miss America pageant will be reduced to 49 states next year because they are afraid they won't find any contestant willing to say Idaho. |

But isn't it a double standard, Michael, when you have Idaho demonized for deregatory dialogue, yet Oklahoma doesn't raise any alarms? Sincerely, Noah Eaton "If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other" Mother Teresa |
