Now here is a question for my seeing friends: If you were to stand at the equator and it was midnite at the instant of equinox, would you see only the southern half of the northern sky and the northern half of the southern sky? would the Pole star be below the horizon? And what about the Southern Cross? Maybe just half of it with the other half missing? Is Fairbanks at a high enough lattitice, the mid-winter Sun low enough in the sky that you could view the stars in the daytime? If you looked across a land area and the topography compensated exactly with the curviture of the Earth, would the horizon extend out for great distances? How far would your vision extend if there were no horizon? This message was composed in the middle of the night, like Midnitesun knows. Eh Midnitesun? Meanwhile, back at the ranch, this flu or whatever it is continues to rage out of control. I'm gonna have to load up on fruit, soups and lots of orange juice, that is, Midniteun's diet plan. I think we should all set our alarms to go outside and check. But most of us aren't at the equator. Any volunteers? And what if it's raining?..  |

Meanwhile, the sassy robin that arrived yesterday changed his mind last night and is now reportedly headed towards Mexico for spring break. (more on the meteorology report later, amigo) |
