http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4137160.stm It wasn’t for the sake of science or exploration It was ego, pure and simple. The mountain is known as a killer. And still he goes up alone. Except he has a phone. And with a call he expects other men to risk their own lives to save him. Guess what I would not do. …………………………… http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4210798.stm “They had apparently entered the country from Pakistan to go sightseeing, . . .” “Tourists are rare in Afghanistan, particularly in the south and east, where armed criminal gangs and Taleban fighters are active. “ Afghanistan? Did they have bundles of money pinned to their sleeves? ……………………………………………………. You read the papers and you read books and you are constantly hit in the face with stories of people who just don’t get it. And all you can do, perhaps all you should do, is sadly shake your head. The real tragedy is when other people then die. Gee Emperor, I think it’s a real bad idea to march your army back through Russia in winter. Or: General, we’ve seen for a year and a half what artillery and machine guns can do, so perhaps it’s not wise to send masses of troops in straight frontal lines into No Man’s Land. |

Your attitude disturbs me a bit. If someone's life is threatened by a need for blood, do you ask him "why?" and then treat his need as less a need or deserving less because he made a stupid choice in his life that brought him that condition? If you do, you are mistaken. It doesn't matter what choice or intention ever was that brought him to a need because where a man really is in need now and for his life, it is no longer a choice or an intention anymore; it is no longer his choice. It is now necessary to serve him as you know is need and right, not as you feel or think about the choices he made. If you have blood to give, you have a choice. If he needs blood, he doesn't. His choices are not there anymore. Yours are. |
