Ice diamonds are not forever sometimes they mean never even when they are real they can not make you feel no holding you at night can not make things right do not even touch your tears will not ever calm a fear they are silent no words out loud no telling you when they are proud will not call you on the phone just sparkle when you are alone a shiny rock made from coal will have no hint when I am old diamonds are not so very nice I know why they are called ice "Pour yourself thick, when it is you, that you spread." |

1 Slick; True words you have spoken here. As beautiful as a diamond may be, it has no ability to show love. It is strictly a material possession. Enjoyed the read. Wanda |

Gee my Slick friend, not only did I enjoy this write but had to chuckle a little, not because it was funny, quite the contrary, but because it sparked a memory I'd long forgotten. Waaaaayyy back when I was 16 in an English class where we were studying Egar Allen Poe and a few other writtter/poets, we were assigned the task of writting a poem about diamonds. DIAMONDS??? All I knew about them was they were worth a lot of money and girls seemed to be crazy about them. Anyway, this bit was just about the first thing I EVER wrote...even before I knew I liked to write. Wouldn't subject you to but I went to the trouble of digging it out of the attic because I thought it kinda neet to see how alike people sometimes think/write. So here it is in all it's maudlin wonder. Walk easy... j. ---- Stones of Ice I gave her a diamond, a little thing sparkling in the light, "oh, " she said in a way that lessened the height I'd reached as I held it in the palm of my hand. Two days later I again asked her to close her eyes, hold out her hand; into it I placed a fiery stone from the depths of the earth that glowed with a life of its own, a diamond almost the size of her hand. "So beautiful" she said as she pushed it away, "much too costly, more than you can afford." I held it tight wanting to crush it to dust, but put it back in it's case, returned it to the store. A week passed - I couldn't cry anymore, I found myself again, in front of her door. I had no gifts, no jewels, no flowers, no symbol of the love I felt to my core. Softly I knocked - ashamed I had nothing to give, "Come in" she said through the closed door, "Lock it behind you…and don't leave anymore. Diamonds are beautiful, but nothing without love, so lock the door behind you, you're all that I need. wesley james beard, jr. 16 years old [This message has been edited by jwesley (02-20-2002 08:20 PM).] |
