The Squirrel and Joe Let me tell you a story I happen to know it’s about a squirrel and a guy named Joe You see Joe had a pet squirrel when a boy He played with that squirrel just like a toy Now the squirrel was intelligent as could be Joe loved him so he would let him run free He’d hide when Joe’s Dad was around in fact he was not anywhere to be found That squirrel was forbidden in the house Joe’s Dad put him on the level of a louse “He’s a destructive creature Joe,” he would say Whatever he destroys you will have to pay Now Joe loved that squirrel with all his might he knew he’d have to keep him out of sight His Dad had threatened to make squirrel stew Joe figured that’s what he’d do if he only knew One Thursday night Joe was asleep in his bed The squirrel was curled up; so nothing to dread Joe’s Dad was at the table eating a piece of pie The squirrel peeked out, and the pie he did spy Quickly the squirrel ran up the leg of the chair jumped on Joe’s Dad, flew up into his hair Joe’s Dad let out a scream, the squirrel fell “Joe, get this squirrel,” he said with a yell Joe could be seen flying out of his room by this time his Dad had grabbed a broom This man had a temper like a powder keg The squirrel ran up his Dad’s pant leg He danced around all over the floor Joe knew he was doomed to get“what for” He was glad his Dad wore his bibbs eventually the squirrel climbed up his ribs The squirrel jumped out on the table then came a scream from Aunt Mable Joe grabbed for the squirrel, caught his tail wondered how long he could prevail Joe’s Dad was swinging the broom He chased Joe all across the room Joe cleared the door and ran outside still holding the squirrel by the backside He dropped the squirrel who ran for a tree then Joe tripped over a pail, landed on his knee That was the end of the friendship with the squirrel Joe decided it was safer to spend time with a girl Written by, Wanda 12/29/01 |

Barry; Yes, it is somewhat of a nutty story. Actually, the story is loosely based upon the pet squirrel my Dad had when he was a boy. He did crawl up to grab a bite of pie and ended up biting my grandfather. That was the end of the pet squirrel. Perhaps the real story would have been more fun. Wanda |

Amusemi; Yes, squirrels do have some cute antics. I have watched a squirrel run up the steps to the front of the house, and play on the front porch. Inside there is a little pom dog going nutso wanting to get out and tangle with the squirrel. This happened over and over as if the squirrel was deliberately trying to agitate the dog. If that was the intent, it certainly was successful. Thank you for your comments. Wanda |

Noah; Since this poem is loosely based upon a pet squirrel that belonged to my father, I know that he never forgot him and the fun he had with him until that fateful day. Thank you for your comments. Wanda |

LOL...I chuckled and chuckled at this one, Wanda...Squirrels and chipmunks are cousins, so it was amusing to read of the antics of my cousin. ![]() I especially enjoyed the squirrel going up inside the dad's bib overalls! copyright2002 Lyra Nesius |

Wanda, this is the fist i have ever read by you, But let me tell you two Stories. My Dad (named Joseph paul)LOL Won a Sugar baby (flying Squirel) at the county fair. One night it climbed into My grandafthers side of the bed and well you know, Grandpa thought it was a mouse and Hit it with his shoe (the squirel did not survive) Second story more recent My Dad was alone in the back bedroom working on the computer.. and Out peeked a Flying Squirel from under the bed. My parents recounted a story of Mom chaseing it with a Broom and Dad Trying to scoop it up with his shoe.. Finally they caught him in the Waste can and took him outside.. Ha You really hit home on this one. (sure your not related) LOL Jen |

Jen; I am still chuckling at the stories you told about your father. Hello Dallas!! We have friends who live in Dallas, Ft. Worth, and Gainesville. I did feel badly though when the squirrel met his demise. Thanks for sharing the stories and commenting on the poem. Wanda |

Mystic Mystron; You had to mention that song and, I have been trying to think of the person who recorded that. It's funny how those things stick in your mind. :-) Thank you for your comments. Wanda |
