I've always been on the tall side
Since the tender age of nine
Were there bigger things to come?
Surely this must be a sign?

Now at the age of thirty nine
I'm nearing the end of my third decade
I stand tall at five foot ten
And think of the progress I have made

Not always was I comfortable
With my head in the clouds you see
I felt so gangly and inferior
Not happy with how I'd come to be

But in time I grew acceptance
Being tall was not so bad
Many advantages I would find
And no longer did I feel sad

I used my height to my advantage
I stood proud and I stood tall
Although if at times I was to stumble
I would have much farther to fall

I could see so many things
From my vantage point so far
On a good day I could see forever
Maybe even catch a shooting star

My height is no longer a hindrance
And I now accept the way I am
But I must confess I still smile cheekily
When I stand next to a shorter man

HAHAHA great one Sue, I always wished I was tall, I am only five foot, so if I stood next to you, I would really look short. I think tall is always better than short. I mean you dont have to drag a stool around the house. LOL..nice poem. floria

(giggles in delight) Awwwwwww, I know just how uou feel, sweet friend, when I was a little boy, I was always the smallest person in my class and people always teased me because of that, and now I still am only 5 1/2 feet tall but I am proud of who I am and will accept how tall I am and what I look like! (kiss on cheek) This is delightful and cute, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

A delightful read, Sue....

As a person who has always been short, I have had the opposite problems....
One really big advantage that you have is that you get to eat more without the weight showing up.
I'm only 5'1" and every pound I gain, looks like 5 does on someone else....

and...somewhere...I once read that short men really adore tall women...LOL

Ah Sue...you are so lucky!
I'm only 5'2" and it's hard to reach the top of the fridge or the top shelf of anything...and standing under the mistletoe I practically have to use stilts! Ha!
I would rather be taller...anyday.
Good write.
Hugs.

Thank you all for your fun replies.  It's true that I once detested my height but now I value it and have my Swedish father (who was 6'4) to thank for my height. Dad always used to say tall people with big feet have a good grip on the world and I guess that's true.  On the other end of the scale I can certainly sympathise with short people as they can be the butt of jokes, as we tall people often are.  I believe that size doesn't matter one bit, it's what's on the inside that counts the most.

Take care......Sue

Sue,
Face to face we are eye to eye.
Back to back we are cheek to cheek.
But I must confess if you wore heels,
Don't even think that would make me meek.

In my family our 5'10" stature is short. My little brother is 6'4" and my middle brother is 6'1' and my dad is 5'11". However, a secret about physiques: your armspan is supposed to be within 1" of your height. I'm 8" short. And no I'm not a gorilla and my knuckles don't scrape the ground so don't even start. But I can out reach you with or without heels!

And yup I like your style and your attitude.

Grinning at this one!  Yep!  I'm a short one who is in awe of those people who can change ceiling bulbs without standing on a chair.

Keep on standing Tall and Proud.  You do us all proud!

Shenachie

P.S.  Hate to mention it--but did you mean 4th decade?  I marked off the 5th decade a few years back.  I'm operating on the premise that it's okay to mention age if the one blabbing is the voice of experience (age).

Sue:  Enjoyed your poem and glad that you stand tall and proud!! I am short unfortunately, but our daughter is 5' 10 inches and we always told her she should enjoy her height and I think she has. From my lowly vantage point, tall is better!!
