Faded Wrangler denim, Greasy Stetson hat... A trophy buckle, won in Abilene. Now he's crowding fifty- And getting kind of fat- The only gold he wins is in his dreams. Another worn out cowboy- With a lot of tales to tell... Where fable ends, and truth begins...Who knows? A faded photo album- Of the ones he loved so well... He takes it with him everywhere he goes. Another western legend- Of which you've never heard... Another "also-rode", the world forgot. Living from a suitcase- As free as any bird... He won't pretend to be a thing he's not. So, here's to all the cowboys- That we have never known... The faceless heros who have tamed the land- Their graves out on the prairies- Unmarked by any stone... Somewhere between the Red and Rio Grande. |
