As a child Our house was torn apart By a tornado that dropped From an early Sunday sky And rolled down the small valley Taking trees in end over end From places they had been rooted To new places where they lay In cracked splinter piles There was a silence before the storm. Then a low roaring rumble Followed by screams from the tortured Now carried along in the melee Of dust grass tree and tin caught on edges Of those deeply planted enough To resist moving Last night I heard the silence And a rumble of words from your lips Saying I’m done Now I wait for daylight To ascertain the damage |

Ron The power of a tornado...so vividly described, brings to life the emotional termoil you speak of. You did this really well, my friend. |

thanks Martie... have to really see one and it's aftermath to understand tornadoes...or the damage they do. Strange things... can list a house off its foundation and set it a few hundred feet away relatively undamaged..or flatten everything in the path. Drive straw into the side of a tree like it was a nail...and leave undisturbed an empty gas can sitting right next to the tree. Wierd storms...frightening... powerful... quirky |

(sad sigh) I sense some metaphor of heartbreak behind these words, sweet friend, I hope everything is OK now and the storm has calmed and the sun has come out to fill your heart with loves sunshine evermore! (big hugggssssss) This is excellent, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ron, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! The damage is often times irrepairable, like the yellow brick road is only a figment of our imagination. Sometimes I wish it was only a movie!!! |

Victoria... Yes I hope you are never in the path of such a storm. Thanks for the comment. Noah.. as always my friend your replies are appreciated Blues: You are right, sometimes the damage is too great, and their is no yellow brick road, just pavement to scrape your knees when you fall and I sometimes seem to fall all too often. |

The roof was lifted off our house by a tornado when I was a small child... my memories of that night are vivid but disconnected snapshots. You've drawn such an excellent analogy between cataclysmic, life-altering events... well done! |
