Carnival (CarnEvil)

tiger-energized
all the weapons in briefcases
stacked in slim sanguine stained sheaves
packed with fortune wheel spins
lacked salvation exchanged for usury

why are the most carnivorous of creatures
not behind caged bars
but instead peer behind cagey eyes?

in search of a next victim, always on prowl
a quick spin on a carousal
as it carries them in circles on its back
their body: their own barkers booth
Oh, what a fool you are if you don't contribute
to the Cause of the Month

a spatula wallet dripping from skimmed cream
in a hidden back pocket with worn seams

again he offers his wares
holding out the briefcase for perusal
like a golden goose that speaks
but oh so genuinely asking
for anyone who wants to win
To Guess its Weight
before the bomb explodes

...again

...and

again

(Dedicated to the unfortunate innocents
who are victimized by Palestine suicidals
even on a sacred holiday 3-31-2001)

Unbelievable talent you have, Jeff... and such a kind heart to go along with it.
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Excellent writing, Jeff...

It is a dark carnival, indeed, and it is the victims that are in the cages while the wild beasts roam free...as it has always been.

Princess Munk:  not sure if its proper form to blush on Easter, but i just did! *smile*
Things are very important right now; so many important principals of religion
hang in the balance of what we see developing between Palestine and Israel.  It's
a pity the world does not see the significance.

Balladeer:  once more, a humbling thank you is in order,
and also for attentiveness to the critical nature of this current event.

Vic:  Hey Lady!  Hi Vic!  Happy Easter Victoria! ~Pat Pat and a grin~
to my Tejas buddy, such warm wishes returned on a wonderful holiday. *smiles*
oh, btw...no jellybeans, but i did the Little Piggie number at a
smorgasbord trough.  ~oink-age~ ~oink-age~
Thank you for your friendship and kindess, Vic.

awwww i know, Lauren.....these CNN news breaks are awful hard on me.
I was a trained journalist for over 20 years, and i never ever managed to
keep objectivity seperate from my articles.  The more one knows about
something, the more it effects the story, and then...the writer.

as i see terrorists today, i view someone who is not object to firing
guns in the back of someone as they walk to a gunfight, prior to noon.
They see courage in the sacrifice of their human lives, but only in martyrdom,
for personal heavenic glory.  But do they attack war targets:  oh no.....only
unnarmed, unprepared civilians.  Is this not the most supreme act of cowardice,
to strike the equivalent of an elder, and then thump one's chest at the power??
dang them all.....sigh
sorry about the soapbox speech, Lauren.....

Great write!

The carnage of the "carn-evil" has definitely saddened the holy days.  Thanks for putting this into words for us.
