Behind These Eyes

My eyes don't wish to  open, lately.
Behind them are the dreams that
bleed the warmth of another time,
stamped impressions
that no one can tamper with,
securely mine, forever.

I branded you a long time ago.
Tagged you for safe keeping,
stuffed you inside of me,
until you became my essence
and into words, spill out.

You challenge me at every step,
I feel the dark of you rubbing against
the soft of me, easing the ache,
erasing the pains of yesterday.
Friction sometimes good;
the clash of intentions
producing harmonic chords,
in balance of one another.

There was a time when
we were mismatched,
quilted scraps seeking an edge to share,
plaids to stripes, grain against grain,
searching for the right pattern,
of like temperament to enhance,
embroider a lonely life.

You have done that for me,
painted my world in seamless colors,
blending emotions to rise and fall,
retaining a freshness,  waiting for the untried,
as each night features your reign
in the myst, behind these eyes.

Do we ever truely share that which we guard so adeptly, so fervently?
I think not

But we allow others to enjoy our beach ... to see what drifts upon our shores
